NO. 3 ULL SWEEPS JAG BASEBALL WITH GAME THREE WIN

MOBILE, Ala. – No. 3 Louisiana-Lafayette defeated University of South Alabama baseball 13-3 Sunday afternoon to secure a three-game Sun Belt Conference sweep at Stanky Field.

ULL left-hander Cody Boutte (7-0) allowed three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk to earn the win. Hunter Soleymani (0-3) took the loss in 2 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits with one strikeout.

Greg Davis went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored to lead ULL at the plate. Matt Wojciechowski tied a career high in hits, finishing 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Jaguar offense. Davis Knapp added two hits and one RBI, and Drew LaBounty had one hit and drove in a run.

ULL jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Consecutive singles from Jace Conrad and Caleb Adams led off the inning. Chase Compton followed with an RBI groundout to second base to score Conrad and give the Cajuns a 1-0 lead. An RBI single to left field by Davis doubled the ULL lead to 2-0, and a two-out RBI single to left field by Michael Strentz scored Davis and pushed the Cajun lead to 3-0.

USA pushed its first run of the game across in the bottom of the third when Connor Hawthorne reached on a hit by pitch from Boutte with one out, and scored later in the inning on an RBI single to center field by LaBounty to cut the ULL lead to 3-1. Knapp followed with a two-out RBI single to left field to score Garrett DeGallier and cut the Jaguar deficit to one run.

ULL (46-7, 23-4 SBC) answered with three runs in the top of the third to take a four-run lead. A two-out RBI single by Compton doubled the ULL lead to 4-2 , and a two-out, two-run single to left field by Davis extended the Cajun lead to 6-2.

USA (21-29, 10-16 SBC) pushed its final run of the game across in the bottom of the fourth. Andrew Tindell reached on a two-out bunt single to third before Knapp singled to center field, which ULL centerfielder Ryan Leonards misplayed and allowed Tindell to score from first and cut the ULL lead in half at 6-3.

ULL added five runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by RBI singles from Ryan Leonards and Conrad and an RBI double by Adams to take an 11-3 lead.

A solo homer with one out in the top of the seventh by Dylan Butler extended the ULL lead to 12-3. An RBI single to left field by Tyler Girouard scored the final run of the game.

South Alabama will return to action when it travels to Troy, Ala., for a three-game SBC series which will open Thu., May 15, at 6 p.m.
