JAG BASEBALL HEADS TO NICHOLLS STATE FOR MIDWEEK CONTEST

Jared Gates will make his seventh start of the season in Wednesday's contest at Nicholls State.

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team will travel to Thibodaux, La., for a 6 p.m. contest with Nicholls State Wednesday at Ray E. Didier Field.

The game will be streamed live and available for purchase at GeauxColonels.com. It will also be broadcast live on WNSP 105.5 FM in Mobile, and can be accessed online at WNSP.com. Live stats for every South Alabama baseball game are available through the multimedia section of USAJaguars.com, while in-game updates are provided at Twitter.com/SouthALBaseball.

USA (15-16) enters Wednesday's contest having won two of its last three games. The Jags won their series opener at Texas State in 13 innings last Friday, and took the series finale 7-2.

South Alabama holds a 32-16 all-time lead over Nicholls State in a series that dates back to 1974. USA defeated the Colonels 5-4 on March 25 at Stanky Field, which stood as the Jaguars' most recent win prior to the series opener last Friday at Texas State.

The Jags defeated the Colonels 11-7 last season in Thibodaux. Bud Collura went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, and Hayden Jones finished 2-for-4 with a home run – the first of his career – one RBI and two runs. USA is 11-5 all-time in Thibodaux.

Nicholls State (16-18) enters the contest having lost four out of its last five games after dropping two of three games at Northwestern State last weekend. The Colonels are 10-9 at home this season, and are 2-3 in their last five home games.

USA will send left-hander Jared Gates (1-3) to the mound for his seventh start of the season, while NSU will start right-hander Ryan Deemes (1-2). Gates is 1-2 with a 0.74 ERA in four starts at night this year, with 18 strikeouts against nine walks in 24 1/3 innings. The southpaw is limiting opponents to a .138 batting average under the lights.
