Jaguar left-hander Jared Gates (1-4) will make his ninth start of the season, while Auburn left-hander Daniel Koger (1-0) is scheduled to make just his second start of the season. Koger has appeared in eight contests, and carries a 3.60 ERA in 10 innings into the contest. Opponents are hitting just .200 against the southpaw.

South Alabama (17-22) will look to snap a two-game losing skid after dropping the final two games of last weekend's three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Western Kentucky. South Alabama leads the Sun Belt Conference in sacrifice bunts (44), but ranks last in the league in batting average (.240), slugging percentage (.286), on-base percentage (.320), runs scored (135), hits (312), RBI (120), doubles (43), home runs (3), total bases (372) and stolen bases (13).

South Alabama holds a 47-23 all-time lead over Auburn in a series that dates back to 1968. Tuesday's meeting between the schools is the first since 2012. Auburn shut out USA 7-0 in the last meeting. The Jags are 19-13 all-time at Auburn, and have not won in Auburn since 2011.

Auburn (22-19) has dropped two straight games, and five of its last six contests after losing the final two games of its three-game series with South Carolina last weekend in Auburn. The Tigers are 16-10 at Plainsman Park this season. Jordan Ebert leads Auburn in batting average (.364) and hits (55), while Blake Allen leads the team with 26 RBI. Auburn is batting .282 as a team with a 2.95 team ERA.
