No. 75 MEN’S TENNIS WRAPS UP HOME SLATE THIS WEEKEND

MOBILE, Ala. - With their season coming to an end and less than a week until the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, the University of South Alabama men's tennis team will host their last two home matches of the season this weekend.

The Jaugars, ranked No. 75, will take on Texas-San Antonio on Senior Day Saturday at 2 p.m. and UAB on Sunday at noon.

"We have been working hard the whole year and now we are finally in the top 75," said USA head coach Nick Brochu. "We were in the top 80 a couple of weeks ago and moving up those five spots was kind of tough. The key now is to just stay at that spot."

Junior Daniel Leitner (Niederfischbach, Germany) leads the team with a 14-5 mark at the No. 1 spot, with 12 of those wins coming in straight sets. Leitner and sophomore Gerhard Gruindelingh (Pretoria, South Africa) are undefeated with a 5-0 record at No. 2 doubles.

Saturday will mark the third meeting between USA and UTSA. The Roadrunners lead the all-time series with the Jaguars 2-0. The two teams met last March at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions and Texas-San Antonio won 4-2.

The Roadrunners are 9-14 overall this spring and own a 4-10 record on the road. UTSA has faced nine ranked opponents and defeated three in the top 30. Joel Rubio and Tomas Stillman are currently ranked No. 47 with a 14-6 mark at the top two spots. Stillman leads the team with a 19-2 record at Nos. 2 and 4 with a six-match win streak.

The Blazers enter the match with an 11-7 record in their spring campaign after going 2-1 at the Middle Tennessee Shootout. UAB defeated Troy and DePaul, but fell to Middle Tennessee. Chris Helliar leads the team with a 12-5 mark at the top two spots and has won five in a row. Helliar is 8-2 in his last 10 matches.

USA leads the all-time series with UAB 20-9 and won nine straight until the Blazers defeated the Jags 4-1 last April.

"We have two tough matches this weekend," said Brochu. "Both teams are very good. UAB has been right behind us all year. They're a top 85 team. Both teams also beat us last year so this weekend will be a couple of revenge matches."
