JAG BASEBALL TO PLAY AT SLU, HOST USM IN MIDWEEK ACTION

Matt Bell will start Tuesday's contest at Southeastern Louisiana.



MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama will begin a five-game swing over a six-day span beginning Tuesday when it travels to Hammond, La., for a 6 p.m. contest with Southeastern Louisiana at Alumni Field.

South Alabama (13-13) will then return home to host Southern Mississippi at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stanky Field.

Both games will be streamed live and be available for purchase through the All-Access section of USAJaguars.com. Each game will also be broadcast live on WNSP 105.5 FM in Mobile, and can be accessed online at WNSP.com. The Jaguars went 1-4 last week after getting swept by Texas-Arlington in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Stanky Field. USA defeated Nicholls State last Wednesday in Mobile prior to its league matchup with UTA.

South Alabama leads the SBC in sacrifice bunts (29), but ranks last in the league in (203), runs scored (84), RBI (74), on-base percentage (.318), slugging percentage (.284), doubles (28), home runs (1), total bases (240), walks (81) and stolen bases (4).

USA is 40-13 all-time against SLU in a series that dates back to 1984, and has won the last two meetings between the schools. The Jags defeated the Lions 13-7 in Hammond, La., last season before shutting out SLU at Stanky Field later in the year.

SLU (16-11) dropped two of three games to Houston Baptist last weekend, but has won 10 games at home this season. Jameson Fisher leads the Lions in batting average (.357), runs scored (21), hits (35), triples (1), slugging percentage (.439), walks (16) and on-base percentage (.484).

USA will send right-hander Matt Bell (2-3, 6.15) to the mound in Tuesday's contest at SLU, while the Lions will counter with left-hander Kyle Cedotal (0-1, 1.50).

USM (15-13) will play at New Orleans Tuesday before facing USA Wednesday night at Stanky Field. The Jags have not announced a starting pitcher for Wednesday's contest, but the Golden Eagles are scheduled to start left-hander AJ Glasshof (2-2, 5.59).

South Alabama has the last five meetings with Southern Miss after a 5-1 win in Hattiesburg, Miss., earlier this season. The Jags are 58-29 all-time against USM in a series that dates back to 1967.
