MOBILE, Ala
. – The University of South Alabama men's tennis team claimed its second win this season against a Sun Belt Conference foe on Saturday with a 4-3 victory over Troy at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

The Jaguars have won eight of their last 11 matches to improve to 12-6 overall. The Trojans dropped to 5-12.

USA started strong, sweeping both doubles matches to earn the point. Junior Daniel Leitner (Niederfischbach, Germany) and sophomore Gerhard Gruindelingh (Pretoria, South Africa) got the Jags on the board with an 8-2 win over Sami Ghorbel and Mansingh Athare at No. 2. Freshman Tuki Jacobs (Windhoek, Namibia) and sophomore Juan Troglia (Mendoza, Argentina) topped Tommy Cundy and Daniel Bustamante 8-3 on the No. 3 court.

"We played some very good doubles today, especially at No. 2," said USA head coach Nick Brochu.

In singles action, Gruindelingh gave South Alabama a 2-0 lead when he downed Karen Khachatryan 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot. Athare claimed the first point for the Trojans with a 6-1, 6-1 win over freshman Quincy Olij (Alkmaar, Netherlands) in the No. 6 flight.

Jacobs dropped Bustamante 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 and Leitner secured the match for the Jaguars with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ghorbel at the No. 1 spot.

"In singles, we were very aggressive and quickly won the first sets on the top five courts," said Brochu. "Troy fought back in the second sets, but we stayed strong and closed the match winning three singles fairly quickly. At Nos. 1, 3 and 4, we dominated from the beginning until the end. It was nice to see Daniel, Tuki and Gerhard being so strong mentally and not slow down until they shook hands."

Troy picked up the final two points of the day when Gabriel Sciacca Dias edged junior Manuel Belda (Posadas, Misiones, Argentina) 2-6, 6-2 (11-9) on the No. 2 court and Pablo Moreno outlasted Troglia 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5.

"Overall, today we showed a lot of energy and got a great conference win," said Brochu.
