MEN’S TENNIS FALLS AT No. 66 TULANE

NEW ORLEANS – No. 66 Tulane won three singles matches in straight sets in addition to the doubles point to defeat the University of South Alabama men's tennis team 4-2 Saturday afternoon at the City Park Pepsi Center.

The Green Wave (11-4) top the Jaguars (11-6) for the second time in two weeks after winning 4-1 in the H-E-B Tournament of Champions final March 1 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Tulane used an 8-6 victory at No. 3 to claim the doubles point and got wins at Nos. 1, 4 and 6 to clinch the match.

After Ian Van Cott and Alex Van Cott staked the Green Wave to an early 1-0 lead with an 8-6 win over freshman Tuki Jacobs (Windhoek, Namibia) and sophomore Juan Troglia (Mendoza, Argentina), Jao Chi-Shan made it 2-0, defeating senior Shayann Vaezzadeh (Bavent, France) 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4.

Dominik Koepfer added another point when he downed junior Daniel Leitner (Niederfischbach, Germany) 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) and Alex Van Cott finished off the match at No. 6 with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Troglia.

The Jaguars picked up the final two points of the match when Jacobs defeated Takuma Ohashi 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 and sophomore Gerhard Gruindelingh (Pretoria, South Africa) outlasted Ian Van Cott in three sets 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.

Koepfer and Chi-Shan earned the first doubles victory at No. 1 but Leitner and Gruindelingh evened it up at No. 2 with an 8-3 win before the Green Wave picked up the final point.
