JAG BASEBALL TO HOST JSU IN PAIR OF MIDWEEK CONTESTS

Matt Wojciechowski has hit safely in all six Jaguar games this season.



MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama baseball will host Jacksonville State in a pair of midweek games beginning Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Stanky Field.

The final game of the two-game set is scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Tuesday's contest will be broadcast live on WNSP 105.5 FM in Mobile. Wednesday's game will not be carried over the radio, however, both games will be streamed live and will be available for purchase through the All-Access section at USAJaguars.com. Jaguar left-hander Jared Gates (0-1) will make his second start of the season in Tuesday's contest, and will square off with JSU southpaw Casey Antley (1-0). Neither team has announced a starter for Wednesday's game.

USA (2-4) enters Tuesday's matchup with JSU having split two games at New Orleans last weekend, while Jacksonville State (4-2) will head into Tuesday's contest coming off a series win over Valparaiso last weekend in Jacksonville, Ala.

The Jaguars enter the series hitting .287 as a team, while the Gamecocks carry a .292 team average into the first game of the two-game set. USA boasts a 3.11 team ERA, and JSU will bring a 3.33 team ERA into the opener.

Matt Wojciechowski leads South Alabama with a .364 batting average, while JSU is led by Andrew Bishop who is hitting .391 in six games. Wojciechowski has hit safely in every Jaguar game this season, and carries a six-game hitting streak into the opener.

South Alabama holds a 16-4 all-time lead over Jacksonville State in a series that dates back to 1996. USA is 6-3 all-time against JSU at Stanky Field. The Jags have won two straight against the Gamecocks and 10 of the last 11 meetings dating back to the schools' final meeting in 2000. USA took two midweek contests last season at Jacksonville State.
