MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team will host Nicholls State Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Stanky Field.
South Alabama (24-9) took two of three games from Florida International over the weekend, after falling to then-No. 17 Mississippi State last Tuesday at Stanky Field.
The Jaguars lead the Sun Belt Conference in runs scored (233), RBI (207), hit by pitch (41) and sacrifice flies (19), and are tied for the league lead in hits (335) with Louisiana-Lafayette.
USA left-hander Andrew Fonzi (1-0) will make his fourth start of the season in Tuesday’s matchup with Nicholls State. Fonzi has allowed three earned runs or less in all three of his previous starts, and has eight strikeouts against four walks in 12 innings pitched.
Nicholls State (15-18) enters Tuesday’s game on a three-game losing streak after getting swept over the weekend by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Colonels have dropped six of their last seven games, and are 6-8 in road games this season.
NSU is hitting. 279 as a team entering the game, while its pitching staff carries a 4.05 ERA into the contest.
Keith Cormier leads NSU in batting average (.336) and on-base percentage (.415), while Cody Dufrene leads the team in RBI (24).
Colonel right-hander Brandon Jackson (0-0) will make his second start of the season in Tuesday’s game. He has a 5.84 ERA in five appearances, and has struck out 10 batters against six walks in 12 1/3 innings.

USA holds a 31-15 all-time lead over Nicholls State in a series that dates back to 1974. The Jags defeated the Colonels 11-7 on March 5 this season in Thibodaux, La. South Alabama is 18-10 all-time against NSU in Mobile.
