MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team, fresh off its third Sun Belt Conference series win of the season, will return to action Tuesday when it travels to Thibodaux, La., for a 6:30 p.m. contest against Nicholls State.

South Alabama (16-24) fell to the Colonels 8-4 on March 7 at Stanky Field. The Jaguars are 30-14 all-time against Nicholls State, and 10-4 in Thibodaux.
USA enters game having won four of its last five contests after taking two of three games from Louisiana-Lafayette last weekend at Stanky Field. USA is batting .273 with a 5.97 team ERA heading into Tuesday’s matchup. The Jags are 6-16 in non-conference games this season, and are 3-9 in non-conference road games. USA has dropped three of its last four road contests, and snapped a three-game road losing skid with a 14-7 win at UALR on April 15.
Whitt Dorsey leads South Alabama in batting average (.348) and hits (47), and is tied for the team lead with three stolen bases. Nick Zaharion leads the Jags and is tied for third in the Sun Belt Conference with 37 RBI. Jordan Patterson leads the team in home runs (7), total bases (77) and slugging percentage (.513), and is tied for the team lead in doubles (10).
Nicholls State (19-20) enters Tuesday’s contest having lost six of its last seven games after dropping two of three contests against Lamar last weekend in Thibodaux. The Colonels are 9-9 at home this season.
Jeremy Hill leads NSU in batting average (.342), slugging percentage (.467) and on-base percentage (.426), and is tied for the team lead with 27 RBI. Blake Bergeron leads the team in runs (27), homers (6) and total bases (63). NSU ranked fifth nationally in stolen bases entering last week, and enters Tuesday’s contest with 83.
USA freshman left-hander James Traylor (1-0) is scheduled to make his first career start in Tuesday’s contest, and will square off with NSU right-hander Kory Delange (2-0). Traylor has recorded 29 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings pitched this season.
