JAG BASEBALL FALLS TO LOUISIANA AT LAFAYETTE, 6-1

Hunt Griffith went 2-for-4 with a double in the Jaguars' 6-1 loss to Louisiana at Lafayette Saturday at Stanky Field.

MOBILE, Ala.  – Louisiana at Lafayette left-hander Chris Griffitt allowed one run over six innings to lead the Ragin’ Cajuns to a 6-1 win over University of South Alabama baseball Saturday night at Stanky Field.

Griffitt (5-2) allowed six hits with a pair of strikeouts and three walks to earn his fifth win of the season. Cord Cockrell earned his first career save in three shutout innings in relief, and allowed two hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

USA right-hander Payton Gardner (0-3) took the loss in four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Jaguar bullpen trio of Jordan Patterson, Andrew Fonzi and Tyler Huffer combined to allow just one unearned run on three hits.

Louisiana-Lafayette (18-20, 7-10 SBC) loaded the bases in the top of the second on a single and two walks, and pushed across the game’s first run on an RBI single to center field by Tyler Girouard. Gardner then got an inning-ending groundout to second base off the bat of Dominick Francia to end the threat.

The Cajuns doubled their lead to 2-0 in the top of the third on an RBI single to left field by Chase Compton, and took a 3-0 lead later in the inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dylan Butler.

Chris Sinclair extended the Ragin’ Cajun lead to 4-0 with a leadoff home run to right field in the top of the fourth. ULL added to its lead later in the frame on an RBI groundout by Ryan Leonards to score Girouard for a 5-0 advantage.

ULL added its final run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Butler.

Brad Hook led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run into the Jaguar Alley decks in right field for USA’s lone run of the game.

Hunt Griffith went 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Jags at the plate. Hook added a homer, one RBI and a run scored. Graham Odom, Drew Cofield, Robby Campbell, Nolan Earley and Colin Bray had one hit apiece.

Butler finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the Ragin’ Cajuns offensively. Girouard went 2-for-4 with an RBI, one run scored and two stolen bases.

South Alabama (15-24, 9-8 SBC) will be in search of its third Sun Belt Conference series win in Sunday’s 1 p.m. rubber match at Stanky Field.
