The Jaguars, ranked No. 61 in the ITA’s Division I rankings, improved to 8-3, while the Islanders dropped to 7-8.
“Today was a great win,” said USA head coach
Nick Brochu. “It was a good way to finish the weekend. The guys are extremely tired, but we are playing at a high level. We are going back home with three excellent wins, two of them being ranked in the top 75.”
Junior
Cody Hall (Albuquerque, N.M.) and freshman
Daniel Leitner (Niederfischbach, Germany) paired up on court No. 3 to take the win over
Andrew Maingot and
Nathan Robinson 8-3. In the No. 2 flight, seniors
Hanno Bartsch (Pretoria, South Africa) and
Christian Kuehne (Morbach, Germany) topped
Alex Pavlov and
Pietro Jordao 8-2 to clinch the doubles point.
The Jaguar tandem of senior
Romain Bocaert (Lille, France) and junior
Alex Bernard (Soisy Sur Seine, France) rounded out doubles play with an 8-2 victory over
Aurelien Tave and
Peter Nagy at the No. 1 spot.
“Doubles have been one of our strengths this year and we showed it again today,” said Brochu. “We dominated on all three courts.”
Leitner picked up the first singles point against
Gergo Weindinger at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1. Kruger followed in the No. 6 spot with a win over Jordao 6-1, 4-2 (ret.).
Bocaert clinched the win for the Jags with his 6-4, 6-0 victory over Nagy on the No. 1 court. Hall added another point when he defeated Robinson 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 4 flight.
“In singles, we were on a roll and never looked back,” said Brochu. “Daniel was on fire today. He gave us our first singles win within 40 minutes. We saw great leadership from two of our seniors, Dauw and Romain. Dauw wore out his opponent and Romain played some amazing tennis, clinching the match without dropping a game in the second set.”
