USA MEN’S TENNIS TAKES ON FLORIDA A&M SUNDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men’s tennis team will go for its third straight win Sunday when they host Florida A&M University at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts at 2 p.m.

USA leads the all-time series with FAMU 6-1. Florida A&M picked up its first win against South Alabama last year with a 4-3 decision in Mobile.

“The Rattlers are an explosive team,” said USA head coach Nick Brochu. “We need to make sure to start strong and never give them a chance to come back. It will be a mental match. If we can keep the pressure on them from the beginning to the end we should be okay.”

The Jaguars enter the match with a 2-1 record after they defeated Nicholls State 5-2 on Thursday.

South Alabama dropped only two singles matches and freshman Daniel Leitner (Niederfischbach, Germany) secured the win for the Jaguars.

“We had a really good match Thursday,” said Brochu. “We went in with a couple of goals, won the doubles point early and set the tone for the rest of the match. Nicholls State is a good team and everyone fought hard.”

FAMU enters the match on a three-match winning streak and with a 3-3 record.

The Rattlers defeated Southern Methodist (4-3), Florida Gulf Coast (4-3) and Tulane (5-2) to lead up to their match against USA.

“I think FAMU is a better team than last year, but so are we,” said Brochu. “We have new blood on the team and our seniors are playing with more confidence.”
