NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama’s Augustine Rubit (Houston, Texas) has earned back-to-back All-Sun Belt Conference honors, the league announced Wednesday in the annual release of its all-conference teams.

Rubit was selected First Team All-SBC, becoming the first South Alabama player to receive that distinction since Demetric Bennett in 2008. Rubit was tabbed to the third team in 2011 in addition to winning the league’s freshman of the year award.

Starting all 27 games, Rubit leads the team in scoring (14.9 ppg), rebounding (9.3 rpg) and field goal percentage (49.5%), and can become the first USA player to lead the team in all three categories since Mark Neal in 1996.

Rubit is first in the conference in double-doubles with 11 and finished the season with three straight, including a 25-point, 14-rebound performance in the regular season finale at FIU.

His rebounding average also leads the league for the second straight year. He set a new career high with 19 on Jan. 29 against Troy and has grabbed 10 or more in a game this season 12 times.

With 14.9 points per contest, Rubit ranks third in the league. He has led the team in scoring 14 times this season, which includes a career-best 31-point outing against Alcorn State.

Rubit is joined on the All-Sun Belt team by player of the year LaRon Dendy of Middle Tennessee, freshman of the year Tony Mitchell of North Texas, defensive player of the year Chris Udofia of Denver and D’Andre Williams of Arkansas at Little Rock.

MTSU’s Kermit Davis was named the conference’s coach of the year.
