USA vs. Central Florida box score
DENVER, Colo. – The University of South Alabama men’s tennis team edged Central Florida 4-3 Saturday at the Gates Tennis Center.
The Jaguars are now 7-8 in their spring campaign while the Knights fall to 9-12.
"It was a great match," said USA head coach Nick Brochu.
USA picked up quick wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts to secure the first point of the match. Juniors Dauw Kruger (Pretoria, South Africa) and Hanno Bartsch (Pretoria, South Africa) topped Claudio Romano and Erik Brunskog 8-5 in the No. 3 flight followed by senior Lucas Viel (Boussy-Saint-Antoine, France) and junior Romain Bocaert’s (Lille, France) 8-4 victory over Matthew Zachary and Eugene Dolgovykhin the No. 2 spot.
UCF’s Blaze Schwartz put the Knights on the board with his 6-1, 6-1 win over Bartsch on the No. 3 court tying the match 1-1.
South Alabama and Central Florida traded points the rest of the day. The match came down to sophomore Alexandre Bernard’s (Soisy Sur Seine, France) battle with Romano at No. 2 singles. After dropping the first set 6-4, Bernard rallied to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-3 clinching the match for the Jaguars.
The Jags will return to action when they host the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Mobile, Ala. April 21-24.
