USA MEN’S TENNIS TAKES ON NO. 70 TROY

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men’s tennis team will match up with its first Sun Belt Conference opponent of the spring, No. 70 Troy, Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Center in Troy, Ala.

“We are looking forward to this match. Troy is a very good team,” said USA head coach Nick Brochu. “They won conference last year and they beat us 4-3. We need to be ready this year.”

South Alabama is looking to improve its 2-2 record after its 7-0 loss at South Florida on Feb. 19.

The Jaguars lead the all-time series with the Troy 10-1. Last season the 68th-ranked Trojans edged USA 4-3 at home.

“Last year we didn't play hard enough in doubles and it came back to hurt us at the end of the match,” said Brochu. “The doubles point will be very important, especially since we will be on the road.”

USA is 8-4 in doubles matches in the spring, including a 2-0 mark by the pair of juniors Dauw Kruger (Pretoria, South Africa) and Hanno Bartsch (Pretoria, South Africa).

Junior Romain Bocaert (Lille, France), ranked No. 17 in the Southern Region, is 2-1 in the spring and 3-1 in doubles action. His three-match doubles win streak ended Saturday at South Florida.

The Trojans (1-8) enter their first home match of the spring season after a 5-2 loss to Central Florida. Troy’s lone win of the season came on Feb. 17 when they downed Stetson 5-2 in DeLand, Fla. The Trojans’ first seven losses came against nationally ranked opponents.
