RED RIDES DOUBLE DOUBLES TO WIN MEN’S HOOPS SCRIMMAGE

Box Score

MOBILE, Ala.
– Junior Javier Carter (Dallas, Texas) and sophomore Augustine Rubit (Houston, Texas) each recorded a double-double to lead the Red team over the Blue team 80-67 in a University of South Alabama men’s basketball scrimmage Sunday evening at the Mitchell Center.

The Jaguars will play the first of two exhibitions Wednesday against city-rival Spring Hill College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Carter totaled 20 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks while converting 8-of-13 from the floor. Rubit tallied 20 points and 13 boards and made eight of his 11 field goal attempts.

Senior Antione Lundy (Saginaw, Mich.) paced the Blue team with a game-high 27 points on 11-for-21 shooting. He also grabbed 14 rebounds.

“I thought we got some good things done,” head coach Ronnie Arrow said. “Lundy played really well, Trey (Anderson) and Javier did well and Aug played steady. We have to work on some other things, like our press. I was disappointed in not getting the ball inside and we’re not getting what we should in our transition. We’re not getting easy buckets.

Rubit and Carter helped the Red pull away in the second half as the pair combined for 28 points and 13 rebounds after the break. The Reds shot 60.7 percent from the field and outscored the Blues 49-36 in the final 20 minutes.

“Javier getting a double-double doesn’t surprise me,” said Arrow. “He was very active out there.”

Tied 53-53 midway through the second half, junior Trey Anderson (Carrollton, Texas) scored the first of six consecutive points by the Red team to take the lead for the final time. Anderson later fed Carter on a dunk at the 4:58 mark to start an 11-1 run to pull away.

Anderson finished with 14 points, nine assists and six steals.

“Tonight he played like we brought him in to do,” Arrow commented. “I thought he was very passive in the first scrimmage. Both he and Jose (Diaz) did a good job running the team.”

Junior Xavier Roberson (Houston, Texas) totaled 17 points for the Red team on four 3-pointers.
