MOBILE, Ala. - The University of South Alabama will serve as the host site for the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Soccer Championships, it was announced this week by the league office at its annual spring meetings. The dates and times of all games will be announced at a later date.
"It was exciting to hear that we secured the bid to host the Sun Belt Conference Soccer Championships in 2012," USA head coach Mike Varga said. "In 2005 when we hosted we made it to the championship match. It is an advantage to play at home, and it says a lot about the administration's commitment to give all athletic programs every opportunity to do well and advance in the postseason.
"We have 18 incoming freshmen this year and it seems like it is a long way off, but the college years go by so fast," Varga said. "The 2012 season will be here in the blink of an eye and these young ladies will have the opportunity to play their last home match in front of friends and family with a conference championship on the line."
USA has played host to the tournament four times in the program's history, most recently in 2007. The Jags have made three semifinal appearances when hosting the event at the Cage, advancing to the championship match in 2005.
