THIBODEAUX, La. - Nicholls State shortstop Chase Jaramillo delivered a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead the Colonels to a 6-5 win over University of South Alabama baseball Tuesday night at Ray E. Didier Field.
NSU loaded the bases when Bergeron reached on a hit by pitch, Beau Faulk reached on an error and Brady Bourque was intentionally walked.
Jaramillo went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Colonels at the plate. Adam Miley went 2-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored.
Brad Delatte (3-1) earned the win in two innings of shutout relief. Delatte held the Jaguars hitless while striking out one and walking two.
USA right-hander Carlton Paris (2-2) suffered the loss in 1.1 innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit while issuing one walk.
Clint Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored, Brandon Brown went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored, Zach Grichor went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Adam Heisler went 2-for-5 with one run scored and a stolen base.
USA pitchers held the Colonels scoreless in six innings, while NSU held the Jags scoreless in eight innings.
Nicholls State (21-19) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Miley, a sacrifice fly by Borque and a ground out to third off the bat of Faulk.
The Colonels pushed one run across in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead when Comer scored on a wild pitch after leading off the inning with a walk.
The Jags cut the NSU lead in half in the top of the fourth inning. Sean Laird led off the inning with a single, and Brent Tanner followed with a walk. Brown then doubled to center field to score Laird and Tanner and cut the NSU lead to 4-2. Reynolds followed with a two-run inside-the-park home run to center field, scoring Brown from second, to tie the game 4-4.
South Alabama took its first lead of the game in the top of the seventh inning when Heisler singled, stole second, and later scored on Grichor's ground out to the pitcher.
Nicholls State tied the game 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single through the right side of the infield by Jaramillo that scored pinch-runner Tristan Rogers from second base.
NSU and USA combined for just one hit in the final two innings. The Jags collected just three hits in the game after their four-run fourth inning.
USA (28-17) will return to action Wednesday when it travels to Hattiesburg, Miss., for a 6:30 p.m. contest against Southern Miss.

NOTES: Heisler extended his on-base streak to 25 games, and extended his hit streak to seven games ... Heisler has now hit safely in 17 of his last 18 games ...
