Booysen Earns All-America Honors, Breaks School Record at NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – South Alabama Track & Field athlete Reuben Booysen earned Second-Team All-American honors and shattered his own school record in the men's javelin Wednesday night at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field.

Booysen uncorked a throw of 73.10 meters (239-10), eclipsing his previous school-record mark of 72.45 meters (237-8) and securing Second-Team All-American status in his first appearance at the NCAA Championships.

The performance caps a historic junior campaign for the South African native, highlighted by a second consecutive Sun Belt Conference javelin title, a school-record throw, and an All-American finish on the sport's biggest stage. Booysen's appearance in Eugene marked South Alabama's first NCAA Championships qualifier since 2024.

Quotable

Head Coach Paul Brueske

"Reuben prepared and competed exceptionally well. He was one of only two javelin throwers in the field to set a personal best at the NCAA Championships. To come to the biggest meet of the year and deliver a personal best says everything about the kind of competitor he is. We're incredibly proud of him."
