MOBILE, Ala. – The South Alabama men's basketball program announced the signing of Swiss guard Diego Roman to the 2026-27 roster.
Roman, a native of Morges-Saint-Prex, Switzerland, is a 6-foot-6 guard (born Dec. 28, 2005) who joins the Jaguars following professional experience with Starwings Basket Regio Basel in Switzerland's top division.
During the 2025–26 season, Roman appeared in 19 games with 18 starts, averaging 27.9 minutes per game. He averaged 10.7 points on 50.4 percent shooting, along with 6.6 rebounds and 6.3 assists, while adding 1.7 steals per contest.He scored in double figures 10 times, including two 19-point performances. Roman also recorded four games with 10 or more assists, highlighted by a season-high 11, and grabbed a season-best 14 rebounds against BBC Monthey.
"Diego exemplifies versatility and possesses both a high skill level and IQ," said Riley. "He is dynamic in transition and will be impactful on the glass. We are pumped to get Diego here with us. "
Internationally, Roman has represented Switzerland at multiple levels, including the U16 and U20 national teams. In the summer 2024 competition, he averaged 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists across six games. He recorded a 20-point performance on 7-of-9 shooting against Azerbaijan and followed with 14 points and seven rebounds against Albania.
Roman began his career with Morges-Saint-Prex Red Devils before moving to France, where he competed for JL Bourg's U21 team. He later signed professionally with Aix-Maurienne Savoie Basket and Starwings Basel. He was part of the French ProA U21 (Trophée du Futur) championship team in 2024 and has also earned Swiss NLB finalist honors.
Diego is the fourth addition to the Jaguars' program this month, joining fellow transfers Owen Kenney, Aaron Goldstein, and Jalen Langsy.
