Jaguars Square with Louisiana Tech in Weekend Test at Stanky

MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama (10-3) prepares to host future Sun Belt Conference foe Louisiana Tech (8-6) in a weekend test and final non-conference series at Stanky Field.

Friday night's first pitch in the series opener is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday's game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., while the series finale is slated for 1:00 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
South Alabama and Louisiana Tech first met on the diamond in 1979. In 36 all-time games, the Jags lead the series 26-10. Their most recent matchup came in March 2025 in Ruston, where South Alabama won the weekend series two games to one, securing back-to-back victories on Saturday and Sunday. Last season marked the programs' first meeting since 2001, when the Bulldogs were still part of the Sun Belt Conference and have since spent the following 11 seasons as a member of the WAC until 2013, and departed for Conference USA in 2014. Louisiana Tech is set to rejoin the Sun Belt Conference next season in 2027.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
The 8-6 Bulldogs enter the weekend set against the Jaguars on a five-game losing skid. After a strong start to the season with a four-game sweep over Houston Christian and two impressive wins over Ohio State, the Bulldogs have since been swept by conference foes No. 12 Southern Miss and dropped back-to-back midweeks against the Red Wolves of Arkansas State. LA Tech has been very good defensively where they lead Conference USA in double plays (40) and are fourth in the nation, and rank second in C-USA in fielding percentage (.980).

PRIMARY THREADS
  • South Alabama grabbed its tenth win of the season in a run-rule victory over UAB on Tuesday night in Montgomery, Ala. The Jags enter the weekend set with the Bulldogs on a four-game winning streak.
  • The offense has been on fire with two away and are making it a trend. The offense is collectively hitting .333 in 150 at-bats with 49 RBI in two out situations, which is 52% of their RBI this season.
  • Brennon Wright has ranked in the top-5 nationally among Division I players in three offensive categories (as of 3/5) - hits (24, leads SBC), on-base percentage (.623, 2nd SBC), and batting average (.511, leads SBC). He's 10 for his last 14 with 7 mutli-hit games, and on a four game hit streak.
  • Blake Guerin is the team leader in homers (4) and RBI (16) - has the ability to take over a series offensively and has done it already against Charleston (4-7, 1 HR, 6 RBI) and West Georgia (5-9, 2 HR, 5 RBI). The Jaguar first baseman enters the LA Tech series on a 4 game hit streak.
  • FGCU transfer Ryland Bozenhard is set to make his first start as a Jaguar against LA Tech. The right-hander has seen two appearances on the season for a 6.75 ERA in 6.2 innings. He went 3.2 vs Upstate on opening weekend allowing 3 ER, and 3.0 innings against SLU with 2 ER.

The two, four-inning saves in his last two appearances put him on a 8.1 inning hitless streak entering the LA Tech weekend set.
