Five Jaguars Named CSC Academic All-District

MOBILE, Ala. – Five student-athletes from the 2025 South Alabama Football team earned recognition for their work in the classroom Tuesday by being named 2025 Academic All-District from College Sports Communicators.

Linebackers Tirrell Johnson, Darius McKenzie and Parker Shattuck, along with tight end Miller McCrumby and long snapper Baxter Turner represented the Jaguars.

CSC Academic All-District recognition honors student-athletes for their combined high-level of achievement on the field and in the classroom. Eligible student-athletes must maintain a minimum of a 3.50 GPA while being a starter or significant contributor who played in at least 90 percent of their team's games.

Johnson did a little of everything for the Jaguars in his first season in a South Alabama uniform. Johnson finished the season with 54 total tackles, including five tackles for loss and a sack. Johnson found himself around the ball often with one interception, one pass breakup, three quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles. Johnson's signature game on the season occurred in South Alabama's win at Georgia State in which he took over the game in the fourth quarter. Johnson forced a fumble that gave the ball back to the Jags to set up the game-winning touchdown. Then, needing a stop to secure the win, Johnson picked off a pass while the Panthers were driving down the field. That performance earned him week nine Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week honors.

McKenzie finished second on the team in total tackles with 71 for the year. The Canadian made four tackles for loss and recorded one sack to go with one pass breakup. McKenzie recorded double-digit tackles in four games on the year, and guided the Jags to a late-season win at ULM with two tackles for loss and a sack.

Shattuck saw action in all 12 contests for the Jags and made eight total tackles on the season. The sophomore finished the season by making two tackles, including one for loss, at Texas State.

In his lone season in a South Alabama uniform, McCrumby caught 15 passes for 128 yards. His longest reception of the year came in the season-opening win over Morgan State when he took a pass for 32 yards. He recorded a season-high four receptions against Tulane the following week.

Turner handled snapping duties for the Jaguars on field goals and extra points. He helped USA make seven field goals on the year while producing 33 points on PATs.
