NOTES

– The Jaguars are 1-0 for the first time since winning the 2022 season opener. South Alabama snapped a two-game losing streak in season openers by defeating Morgan State.

– The last time South Alabama hosted Tulane was on Sept. 12, 2020. That was the very first game played in USA's Hancock Whitney Stadium. Prior to that contest to open the 2020 campaign, the Jaguars played 11 seasons at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.

– After missing nearly all of 2023 with injury, and getting back to full-health in 2024, South Alabama wide receiver Devin Voisin found the end zone against Morgan State for the first time since the 2023 season opener. That season opener was against Tulane in New Orleans.

– 24 different players appeared in their first game in a South Alabama uniform against Morgan State. The 24 debuts ranged from true freshmen, to transfers, to players who have been with the program and earned their first snaps this season.

– South Alabama's three fumble recoveries against Morgan State were the most in a single game for the Jaguars since recovering three against Troy in 2017.

QUOTES

"Very excited about the result last weekend. Excited for our team to get off to a 1-0 start. It's great to be able to play at home. I really appreciate the city of Mobile and our fans coming out to Hancock Whitney Stadium. We had a great showing and had a good time. We had a lot of people there. It was the first game and first atmosphere for a lot of students starting the school year. Just very pleased to have a good Saturday and get a win."

-Head Coach Major Applewhite on the team's season-opening victory

"We're going to have to do a great job against the run on Saturday to give ourselves a chance to win the game. The takeaways were nice on Saturday, but we're going to have to continue to hunt the football. We're going to have to take the ball away to give ourselves a chance to win."

-Defensive Coordinator Will Windham on what the defense needs to do to beat Tulane

"We went into the game and some of the things we definitely wanted to do were, one, run the ball well. I thought we did that well. We wanted Bishop to start off his opening game with some good, easy completions and take care of that. I thought we did a good job of that."

-Offensive Coordinator Paul Petrino on what the offense did well against Morgan State
