Schroll and Aldana Record Top 10 Finishes; Jags Finish Fifth at SBC Championship

POINT CLEAR, Ala. | Katharina Schroll and Mercedes Aldana each recorded a Top 10 finish Wednesday at the Sun Belt Conference Championship held at the Lakewood Golf Club. Schroll (71-72-75—218) tied with Troy's Victoria Stutts for eighth at two-over, while Aldana (72-74-73—219) was one shot back to finish in a four-way tie for 10th.

Southern Mississippi's Momoka Ando (70-68-69) took home the individual title with three straight rounds under par, firing a nine-under par 207. Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina, Southern Miss and ULM now advance to Thursday's match play round.

Head Coach Marcelo Huarte
- On his thoughts on the week and the season: "It's never easy when the season comes to an end. This was a difficult week for us and we definitely fell short of our expectations. Although it wasn't the ending we had hoped for, there is still a lot to be proud of. We took a big step as a program this year. Our national ranking improved from 256 to 79 at one point this season. We broke team scoring records, Kathi and Mercedes both finished the season with the lowest scoring average for a freshman in the history of the program.

"Our seniors Cassidy and Malia finished their careers with their lowest scoring average for a season. Cassidy also tied the lowest single round in program history this year.

"Looking ahead, the future is bright. We have an incredible freshman class that will be sophomores next year with valuable experience and ready to lead. Our incoming freshmen class is very promising and they are eager to get here. This week's results will sting, but the lessons learned paint a clear picture of what we need moving forward. There's no doubt in my mind that we'll be back stronger than ever."
