MOBILE, Ala. | After wrapping up play at a tournament earlier in the week, the South Alabama women's golf team will make a quick turnaround and compete at the 53rd Gator Invitational hosted by Florida and held at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla. The tournament will be the fifth-straight tournament for the Jags in the "Sunshine State".
The two-day, 54-hole tournament is set to get underway on Friday morning with a 7:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start on the par 70, 6,002-yard course. Final round action will start on Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. (CT) with a shotgun start as well. Live scoring link for each round will be available on USAJaguars.com.Â
Along with the Jags and host Gators, the 14-team field includes Charlotte, Chattanooga, Eastern Michigan, FAU, FIU, Jacksonville, Mercer, Michigan, Ole Miss, UCF, USF and Virginia.
The Jags will face tough competition as four teams are nationally ranked: No. 11 Virginia, No. 15 Ole Miss, No. 29 Florida and No. 31 UCF.
South Alabama will be paired with Charlotte and Chattanooga, and tee off on holes 8-10 in the opening round.
Scheduled to compete for the Jaguars at the tournament are
Katharina Schroll (No. 1),
Mercedes Aldana (No. 2),
Malia Uyeshiro (No. 3),
Anna Behnsen (No. 4) and
Cassidy Lambert (No. 5).Â
All five have been solid out on the links this season – Schroll (73.2), Aldana (73.2), Uyeshiro (74.4), Behnsen (74.8) and Lambert (75.3). Aldana has fired a team-best nine rounds at par or under, while Scholl has seven under par, including two under 70, and a team-best 51 birdies. Behnsen also has four rounds of her own under 70, and has carded 37 birdies and an eagle. Aldana and Uyeshiro are close behind with 34 and 28 birdies, respectively.
As a team, South Alabama finished inside the top five in five of its six events and is averaging 293.8 strokes per round.
