Jags Held Quiet in 8-2 Loss to No. 13 Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - South Alabama's (11-14, 1-6 SBC) slow start leaves too much to overcome late as the Jags dropped the series start at No. 13 Southern Miss (19-7. 6-1 SBC).

The Jags struggled early to make contact with JB Middleton's pitches, with only a Lucas Ismaili single to lead off the second inning in the first five frames.

Zach Willingham dueled Middleton through the first 4-plus innings, throwing 98 pitches for six hits, four runs, and four strikeouts on the day. Middleton finished his outing after 8.0 innings with a career-best 12 strikeouts.

Dalton Brooks tossed the next 2.1 innings for the Jags, allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits, with a 7-0 score in favor of the Golden Eagles with his exit.

Garrett Kangas entered for the final 1.2 innings. Offensively, South took advantage of the USM reliever in the ninth inning, with a walk, then a Kyle Morrison two-run homer to break the shutout. The Jags drew three more walks before a Golden Eagle pitching change gave Southern Miss the need pitcher to draw the final out.

Win: JB Miggleton (5-1)
Loss: Zach Willingham (2-4)
