ATLANTA, Ga. - South Alabama dropped their conference opener to Georgia State, in a one-sided 9-2 affair.

After two scoreless, hitless frames for both teams, GSU broke water with an RBI single that scored a runner from second. The Panthers again made noise in the fourth with a leadoff homer, following it up with an RBI triple, and then a hit to send the man on third home. 

Both teams were silent for the next two frames, with South finally scoring in the seventh on a Ty Brooks double that left two in scoring position. Runners advanced on a wild pitch for a 5-2 game, but GSU scored three in response at the bottom of the inning. 

A lone Panther scored in the eighth making the difference a seven-run game.

On the game: We got outplayed tonight. We got out-pitched tonight. We got out-competed on the mound. We got out-competed in the batter's box. Bottom line, that's what I told the team. That's what it looks like when you get out-competed. Their pitchers made more pitches than our guys did, and they had better at bats than we had. That was the story across the whole game. I told these guys, if it was a fight, we would have been knocked out in the fifth round. I just didn't see the competition in the box like I've seen from these guys for such a long time. So we'll have to make an adjustment tomorrow. We gotta get back to competing like crazy in the box, not worrying about the umpires, not worrying about any other nonsense that's going on, just worrying about doing what you got to do to get on base and win the game.
