NEW ORLEANS – South Alabama men's basketball junior forward Barry Dunning Jr. was tabbed Sun Belt Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. 

Dunning has been on an incredible tear recently. In his two road games, he averaged 30 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting an impressive 60% from the floor (18-for-30), 76.9% from beyond the arc (10-for-13), and 84.2% from the free-throw line (14-for-17).

His standout performance came on Feb. 22 at Texas State, where he dropped 46 points on 13-of-20 shooting, including an astonishing 9-of-12 from three-point range. He also went a perfect 11-of-11 from the free-throw line. That 46-point outing not only stands as the second-most points scored in a single game in Sun Belt history but also ranks as the second-highest point total in NCAA Division I men's basketball this season. Additionally, Dunning tied a 51-year-old South Alabama program record for most points in a game and matched a 13-year-old record for the most 3-pointers made.

Earlier in the week, on Feb. 19, he led the Jaguars to a 60-56 win at Arkansas State, contributing 14 points and eight rebounds, shooting 5-for-10 from the field. Dunning's recent performances have been some of the most impressive in college basketball this season.

He is the third Jaguar in the last two seasons to earn Player of the Week honors. Myles Corey received the award earlier this year on Dec. 3. Before that, Samuel Tabe earned the accolade on Feb. 27, 2024.
