Series Preview: UAB

South Alabama looks to continue the early season roll with a road series in Birmingham against the Blazers.

SERIES HISTORY
The Jaguars hold a 54-32 all-time record over the Blazers, the 10th-most played opponent in Jaguar history, and currently holds a two game active win streak. Despite only being 210 miles apart and sharing a state, South Alabama and UAB did not play from the 2010 season all the way to the 2023 season, with USA taking the two latest wins in '23 and '24. South returns to Birmingham after visiting last season for a midweek contest. The Jaguars hold a 24-16 record against the Blazers in Birmingham.

While not a founding member of the Sun Belt Conference, UAB was an early member, participating in conference play from 1979-1991. Of the 86 meetings between the two sides, 78 have been as conference opponents, only meeting eight times since the Blazers' departure. As conference opponents, South held a 50-28 record over UAB, with the series landing an even 4-4 since 1991.

The highest scoring affair between the Jags and Blazers is from the first series in 1982, with 25 combined runs that ended in a 15-10 Jaguar victory. USA's largest margin of victory came by way of 1979's final matchup, where South won 19-2, with UAB's best win coming from the last 1981 meeting, ending in a 10-2 Blazers win.

In extra innings, South is 6-2, with the most notable extra-innings game from this rivalry taking place May 16, 1981. South Alabama outlasted UAB in a 19 inning marathon, 4-3.

SCOUTING THE BLAZERS
UAB enters the series with a 3-1 record. The Blazers opened the season in Charleston, S.C. for the Swig and Swine Classic. UAB dropped their season debut against Maryland before taking wins over Mercyhurst and Towson. For their home opener, UAb defeated Alabama A&M on Tuesday, 15-3.

JAGS ON THE ROAD
South Alabama will play 24 of their 53 games on the road, matching their total from last season, with one neutral site currently scheduled against Auburn. The Jags are no stranger to challenges on the road, with this season as no exception. South will face familiar foe Alabama in Tuscaloosa, as well as Alabama State in Montgomery along with the series against UAB. The Jags will also make their way to Louisiana four times,  with midweek matchups against Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans, a weekend trip to face Louisiana Tech as the final non-conference series, and the final week of the season playing at ULM.
