MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama will continue its homestand this weekend when it hosts the Mardi Gras Classic held at Jaguar Field. The Jaguars will open up play on Friday with a pair of games: vs. Lipscomb (4:30 p.m.) and Notre Dame (7 p.m.) and then face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4:30 p.m.) and Notre Dame (7 p.m.) on Saturday and Maine (12:30 p.m.) on Sunday.

South Alabama (5-6) enters the Mardi Gras Classic after suffering a 13-2 defeat to Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday night. The Lions used a nine-run, seventh inning to break open a two-run game.

Gabby Stagner (.286) ranks second in the Sun Belt in home runs and is tied for 11th in the category nationally. The senior first baseman also ranks second in the league in RBI (12) and fifth in slugging percentage (.857). Stagner currently ranks second all-time at South Alabama in career home runs (32), just four shy of matching Kamdyn Kvistad's program mark. 

Presley Lively is also batting .267 and leads the team and is tied for third in the SBC in stolen bases with five. Four of Lively's hits have gone for extra bases, including an inside-the-park home run. The freshman outfielder has scored a team-high 10 runs, and driven in six runs. 

Lively (8) and Olivia Branstetter (7) have done a great job getting on base as the duo has combined for 15 walks, and rank second and third, respectively, in the Sun Belt in that category. Caitlyn Gavin is second on the team with eight RBI, while Lively is right behind her. As a team, South ranks third in the conference in home runs with eight and fifth in RBI (42)
