MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama head coach
Becky Clark announced Wednesday the hiring of Christie Meeks as new associate head coach with the Jaguar staff where she oversees pitcher development with the program and assists with pitch calling and strategy.
Hannah Campbell who has served in that role the previous 10 seasons will move to Director of Pitcher Development.
"Hannah will continue to invest in South Alabama Softball but, by moving things around, we are able to put her in a role that still serves the student-athletes, but is not quite as time intensive," Clark said. "The bonus to this is we are able to add Coach (Christie) Meeks who is a proven winner and will continue the tradition of developing competitive pitching staffs.Â
"When we began the process of hiring for Hannah's former position, I was focused on someone who would first-and-foremost care about our student-athletes. In addition, I wanted someone who was knowledgeable and had a proven track record of developing pitchers at the collegiate level and could also recruit high level talent. I definitely feel like we have hit all of the marks on this and have strengthened an area that is already performing at a high level. I am grateful for all Hannah has done and will continue to do for our program and excited about the impact Coach Meeks will make moving forward. It really is a win-win and I know our student-athletes will benefit greatly from the adjustments we have made."
Meeks, a Mobile, Ala., native, arrives at South Alabama after serving the previous seven seasons as head coach at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Miss., where she led the program's first-ever NJCAA Division II World Series appearance.
"I could not be more grateful to come back home and have the opportunity to join such an amazing program and coaching staff," Meeks said. "Their knowledge, leadership, passion, and commitment to excellence has built championship culture. I am excited and determined to help continue this standard here at the University of South Alabama."
The Wildcats completed a perfect run through the bracket, capturing the first National Championship in school history, defeating ninth-ranked Des Moines Area, 2-1. Enroute to the title, Meeks and the Wildcats picked up wins over the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 9 and No. 12 ranked teams.Â
Six players were named to the all-tournament team following the win, highlighted by Ana-Grace Garcia (Most Valuable Player), Shania Fondren (Outstanding Defensive Player) and Natalee Eaves (Outstanding Offensive Player).
The Wildcats finished with a 48-7 overall record and a 24-4 mark in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference. Garcia and Fondren both earned First-Team All-American honors at the conclusion of the season. Fondren also set single-season program marks in home runs (27) and RBI (78) during the 2026-27 season, and was one of seven players to earned all-MACCC accolades for their play.
Under Meek's guidance this past spring, the Wildcat pitching staff led the MACCC in ERA (2.16), shutouts (15) and opponent batting average (.202). Nationally, PRCC was third in opponent batting average, seventh in shutouts and 11th in earned run average, while ranking 10th offensively in home runs (69) and slugging percentage (.592).
In her seven seasons at Pearl River, Meeks compiled an incredible 231-93 (.713) record, and over that span the program has been ranked in the NJCAA polls every season since the 2021 campaign, her first full season at the helm as her inaugural campaign was shortened due to Covid-19. The Wildcat program also advanced to the championship round of the Region 23 tournament each of the past two seasons.
In addition to the league-leading marks this past season, the Wildcats have also led MACCC in ERA (2024, 2023), opponent batting average (2023, 2022) and shutouts (2024).
Individually, five players, including four from the circle – Garcia, Natalie Herrington (2024) and Brinson Anne Rogers (2022 and 2023) – have been named NJCAA All-Americans during her tenure. Herrington (2024) and Rogers (2023) were also named the MACCC Pitcher of the Year, and Meeks has had a total of 33 players earn either first- (12), second- (11) or honorable mention (10) all-league honors, while PRCC has had nine NJCAA all-Region 23 selections.
The program also had a total of 32 players earn player of the week accolades from the MACCC – 18 pitchers and 14 offensive players – during her time in Poplarville. Garcia and Rogers also combined to earn three National Pitcher of the Week selections under Meeks' tutelage.
During the 2025 campaign, Emmaleigh Theriot picked up a Rawlings Gold Glove selection from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association following the conclusion of the season.
Prior to arriving at PRCC, Meeks spent five seasons as an assistant at Mississippi Gulf Coast, where she served primarily as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.
During her time at MGCCC, the Bulldogs built a 184-50 overall record and earned a NJCAA Tournament berth, won the MACJC and Region XXIII titles, placed second in the State tournament twice and third in the Region Tournament twice.
Individually, Meeks was a key figure in building MGCCC's roster. Specifically working with the pitchers, Meeks mentored six pitchers who collectively won 15 MACJC pitching honors, four NJCAA pitching awards and one, Kaitlin Lee, who was a NJCAA All-America selection.
Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Meeks coached at East Central High School from 2013-14, where she was the pitching coach in addition to the head volleyball coach. Additionally, Meeks was an assistant coach at Satsuma High and Theodore High in Alabama; coaching at SHS in 2011 and THS in 2012.Â
As a player, Meeks starred at Theodore before going on to play at Laurleen B. Wallace Community College, where she was an all-region performer and graduated magna cum laude. From there, Meeks moved on to play at the University of Mobile, where she also graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics. Meeks also holds a master's degree in math education from West Alabama.Â
Meeks and her husband, Eric, have two children, Connor and Olivia.
