South Alabama Makes First Road Trip of the Spring at Bear Down Fiesta

MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama will head out on the road for the first time this spring when the Jaguars compete at the Bear Down Fiesta hosted by Arizona at Hillenbrand Stadium. South will open the tournament up on Thursday night against the Wildcats, who are ranked as high as No. 10 by D1Softball, at 6 p.m. (CT) and 8 p.m. (CT). The Jags will then face Ohio on Friday at 1:30 p.m. (CT), and then close out play on Saturday with two more games: vs. Cal State Fullerton (11 a.m. (CT)) and vs. Ohio (1:30 p.m. (CT)).

Live stats and streaming links for all five games can be accessed on the South Alabama schedule page. The games versus Arizona will be shown on ESPN+, while the neutral site games will be streamed on FloSoftball.

South Alabama enters the Bear Down Fiesta after opening the season with a 4-1 record at the South Alabama Invitational presented by Marriott Mobile. The Jags closed out the tournament with a pair of 11-run performances in victories over Northwestern State and UIC.

As a team, South batted .306 and recorded 13 extra-base hits, including seven home runs. South Alabama also enters the weekend having homered in each of the last four games, led by first baseman Gabby Stagner (.333), who is currently tied for third in the NCAA with four home runs. The senior is coming off a season in which she set a new single-season mark for South, while her 46 RBI were seventh most in a season.

Dating back to last season, Stagner has reached base safely in each of her last 23 contests and over that time has posted 20 hits, including four doubles, 11 home runs, 23 RBI, walked 14 times, and had at least one hit in 18 games. Stagner is currently tied for second with Victoria Ortiz for second all-time at South Alabama in career home runs (31), just five shy of matching Kamdyn Kvistad's program mark.

Along with Stagner, five other players – Caitlyn Gavin (.417), Sidney Lee (.400), Presley Lively (.385), Megan Davidson (.364) and Ansleigh Smith (.333) – are also hitting above .300. Both Lively and Davidson have scored a team-high six runs, while Lively has also driven in five runs and stolen four bases. Three of Lively's hits have gone for extra bases, including an inside-the-park home run, and both Stagner and Gavin lead the club with seven RBI, and have scored four runs.

In the circle, sophomore Ryley Harrison led the way over the weekend as she went 2-0 with a pair of saves for the Jaguars. The Fairhope, Ala., native has struck out 14, held opponents to a .143 batting average and holds a 2.14 earned run average in her 16.1 innings of work.
