Samford Multi's / Clash
The Jags will begin the season by sending its heptathletes and pentathletes up the road to compete in their first action of the season in Samford Multis Clash.
On the men's side, three Jags will be competing as 2024 Sun Belt Outdoor decathlon silver medalist Nic Glass leads the charge while promising underclassmen Heath Whigham and Samuel Warriner look to have a strong start to the year.
Four women will be participating for the Jaguars. UAB transfer Megan Hamilton Strong and former Gonzaga women's basketball standout converted South Alabama Track athlete will compete for the Jaguars for the first time, while returning gems Jamie Willis and Allie Germann will also take the field.
Competition will open Thursday with four events for the women as they will take part in the 60 meter hurdles, high jump, long jump, and 800 meters. The men's squad will compete in the 60 meters, long jump, shot put, and high jump before wrapping up competition Friday with the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1000 meters.
South Alabama will face off against the likes of Alabama, Harding, Montevallo, Ouchita Baptist, Troy, Samford, and West Georgia.
2023-24 Recap
South Alabama Track and Field is coming off one of its most successful seasons in program history. The men's team posted its' second Sun Belt Outdoor Men's Title in three seasons and Francois Prinsloo became the fourth National Champion and sixth Olympian program history.
The Jags return several impactful performers with All-Sun Belt honors, including multi-time All-conference honorees Sebastian Loschner and Kyle Rademeyer return for their final indoor seasons, as well as sprinter and Sun Belt Championship Silver medalist Kendal White on the men's side. On the women's side, pole vault all-conference runner-up Alexis Gratia comes back for her junior season, while rising stars Iyana Johnson and Charleen Elizondo are set for breakout years.
South Alabama's men finished in second place at the Indoor Championships last season, totaling 122 points, while the women's team took 12th place with 25 points.
Two Jaguars won individual conference championships last season Loschner (shot put), and Sacha Perrier (5000 meters). Additionally, two program records were smashed in as Loschner broke his own record in the shot put and Bodine Degli-Umberti set a historic new mark in the women's weight throw.
