Schroll Leads Jaguar Women at UAB Hoover Invite

HOOVER, Ala. | Katharina Schroll fired a two-over par 218 to record her first Top 10 finish of the fall on Tuesday as she ended the UAB Hoover Invite held at the Hoover Country Club in a four-way tie for ninth.

Anna Behnsen (74-71-79—224 (+8)) and Mercedes Aldana 76-77-72—225 (+9) both posted Top-30 finishes for South, tying for 22nd and 26th, respectively.

South Alabama (298-293-305—896) had a strong showing on day one of the event, firing its best round at five-over in the second round on Monday with a 293 to sit in a tie for fourth with Stetson, but the Jags fell back two positions to place sixth at the 14-team event.

Alabama took home team honors with a three-round, seven-over par 871as the Crimson Tide placed a pair of players inside the Top 10 and four inside the Top 15. Samford's Gabi Nicastro (68-70-73—211) finished at five-under to capture individual medalist honors, two shots better than ULM's Daniela Campillo (69-73-71—213).

Head Coach Marcelo Huarte
- On South Alabama's play this week at the UAB Hoover Invite:
"Although we didn't finish the way we would've liked, there's a lot of positives to take away from this week. We had some spurts of really good golf, but made far too many mistakes. We'll address some of our weaknesses from this past week and prepare for the next event."

- On the play of Katharina Schroll:
"I'm proud of Katharina. She got off to a bad start in the first round and was able to fight her way back into the top 5 going into the final round. She had a bogey free second round and played solid throughout the entire event."
