EUGENE, Oreg. – South Alabama senior discus thrower Francois Prinsloo claimed the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship title Friday night at historic Hayward Field. 

Prinsloo put on a masterclass performance, leading from start to finish by recording the top three throws in the entire competition in his first three attempts. He started the evening by launching a monstrous toss of 61.92 meters (203'3") before improving to 62.19 meters (204'0"). Prinsloo put the nail in the coffin with his third throw, launching a throw of 63.51 meters (208'4") to secure the NCAA title and beat his closest competitor from the University of Southern California by nearly two meters (Six feet). 

Prinsloo is the fourth national champion in program history and the second in the past two seasons.

Additionally, Dorian Curry earned Honorable Mention All-American honors in the high jump by placing 23rd overall with a clearance of (6'9.5").

Up Next

This marks the final day of the South Alabama Track and Field season and the end of Prinsloo and Curry's collegiate career. Francois will shift his focus to discus training for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in his home country, South Africa.
