Seven Jaguars set to compete at NCAA East Regionals

LEXINGTON, Ky. –  Seven South Alabama Track and Field athletes will compete in the 2024 NCAA East Preliminary Round this week in Kentucky. The Jaguars will compete in eight different events throughout the four-day competition on May 22-25. 

South Alabama will have six athletes competing in field events, while Kendal White will be the lone Jaguar sprinter in the 400-meter hurdles. 

All five men are multi-time qualifiers for the NCAA East Preliminary Round. Dorian Curry, Kyle Rademeyer, and Francois Prinsloo will be in their fourth round of prelims. Sebastian Loschner will enter his third postseason event and Kendal White will be at the Regionals for the second time in his career. 

On the women's side, Alexis Gratia and Ava Grace Wheaton have qualified for their first NCAA Regionals round. 

Prinsloo and Rademeyer have shown dominance while competing at the NCAA Regionals in the past. Prinsloo has taken first place in the discus twice (2021&2022), and Rademeyer has placed seventh or above three straight times in the pole vault.

What to Know

  • Prinsloo has thrown over 60 meters in the discus six times this season and ranks No.2 in the country with a personal best mark of 67.26 meters (220'8"). 

  • Rademeyer is tied for fourth in the country with a season-best clearance of 5.65 meters (18'6.5") in the pole vault. 

  • Loschner and Prinsloo are the only two athletes to compete in multiple events this year. 

  • Gratia is the only Jaguar on the women's team to earn All-conference honors and to qualify for the NCAA Regionals.
