Senior Journals: One more time around the bases with Odalys Cordova

Each Monday throughout the season, one of our 2024 seniors will give fans a view through their eyes as they recap the previous week. On tap this week is second baseman Odalys Cordova.

Hi guys, I'm Odalys Cordova and I'm a redshirt senior infielder from Orlando, Fla. This week we have a long trip to the Sun Belt Conference tournament at Texas State.

Monday
Today, the first thing I did was make breakfast and chilled at my apartment for a little until lunch. Julia Roman, my coworker for our facilities and operations department, invited me and Kailey Littleford (soccer player) to lunch at Squid Ink in downtown before I had to leave for the airport. After lunch I had to get ready to head to softball to depart for the New Orleans airport at 3 p.m. because our flight was at 8:45p.m.

Tuesday
Today, I woke up and ate breakfast downstairs at the hotel and then had to get ready for practice. It was a very hot and sweaty day at practice and afterwards we went to lunch at Panera Bread. After lunch, we had to get a quick lift in at the Texas State weight room. Then went back to the hotel to get a quick shower before going out to eat dinner at Grins.

Wednesday
I woke up early and ate breakfast. We had hitting practice in the morning and then went to Firehouse Subs for lunch, my favorite. Afterwards, we went back to hotel for an hour and then got ready to eat dinner at Chuy's, and after dinner, we went and watched some of the Georgia Southern-Marshall game.

Thursday
GAME DAY!!!! I woke up early and ate breakfast, and then a little later we had recovery groups. After recovery, we had to get dressed ready for the game before leaving to go to lunch at Fresco. After lunch, we head to the field a little early and got to watch some of the Troy versus Coastal Carolina game before warming up. Our game started and was a close one the whole way till the 13th inning. Bailey Welch hit an INSANE walk off homer to finish the game and I'm sure it was the best moment of her softball career. We then got back and ate dinner that the hotel made for us.

Friday
I woke up ate breakfast and then went back to my room to take a nap before going to lunch. We ate lunch at Fresco again and then had recovery groups after. After recovery, we had about an hour and then got ready to depart for the field. We also got to the field a little early, so we got to watch some of Troy and Louisiana game, which was fun to watch. Then GAME TIME against Texas State??. This game was close the whole way. We got ahead early and kept playing a hard-fought game. Texas State tied the game up in the sixth inning and we had to go into extra innings. The game still kept going back and forth until the eighth inning when they hit a walk off homer. Liv (Olivia Lackie) pitched a great game and we just came up short. We kept our heads up and went back to the hotel to eat dinner.

Saturday
We woke up early to eat breakfast and then had to leave at 9 a.m. and take a 10-hour bus ride back to Mobile. We got back to Mobile around 6'ish. I got to my apartment and cleaned my room up a little and then went to bed.

Sunday
NCAA SELECTION SHOW DAY!!! I woke up and made myself breakfast and then kept cleaning and emptying my room some for when I have to move out soon. Then at 5 p.m. we had dinner at the Hargrove Club before the Selection Show. The show began at 6 p.m. where we found out early that we are headed to the Gainesville Regional. We all jumped and screamed in excitement because we all know we worked our butts off to get to this point. Now we prepare this week and get ready for Gainesville next weekend.

Thank you for reading about my week JagNation and we hope to see you in Gainesville!
