NORFOLK, Va. - South Alabama crawled back late with two home runs to win Saturday, 5-3.
The Jags again found themselves in a hole early, after a solo homer and a rundown play gave the Monarchs a 2-0 lead. Undeterred, South's
JG Bell hit an RBI single to cut the lead in half.
The Jaguar offense was quieted for the middle innings, with no hitters reaching from the fourth through the sixth.
A single and two walks in the seventh loaded the bases, and the Jags tied it up after
Joseph Sullivan was hit by an errant ball.
After two outs in the eighth,
Tyler Borges gave South the long-awaited lead on a solo home run.
Will Turner then hit one himself as the lead off hitter for the ninth, followed up with a hit batter and a
Micah Morgan double. ODU intentionally walked Holt, loading the bases. Borges bounced a hard infield single to score the Jags' fifth run. A solo homer in the bottom of the ninth was not enough for the Monarchs as the Jags win the series finale.
Winning Pitcher: Seth Carter (2-0)
Save: Grant Wood
Losing Pitcher: Bailey Matela (1-2)

Well, overall thoughts are I thought Old Dominion probably, in a three game set, had the best pitching staff we've seen all year. They're hard to score against, they could match up. None of their guys ever got tired. They used, you know, seven or eight on the weekend, nine guys and they all have great numbers. And so they'll just bring somebody, they'll bring a fresh guy in to match up, you know, second and third. Anytime there's a rally they bring a new guy in and they kind of put the fire out. Today we dug in. We faced some really good arms again today and had to fight our way through, Borges with the home run that put us up ahead and then
Will Turner, but I thought the story of the game today was our pitchers, you know,
Cam Hill was outstanding. They dropped two on us and then he just hung in there and then to all the guys that came in Mitch (Heer) you know, I thought (Gant) Starling was outstanding. Starling was nasty, even though he faced one hitter. That was huge. You know, and then (Seth) Carter to (Grant) Wood, so we were really good on the mound today and we did enough. We were a little more opportunistic, offensively, today than we were yesterday and happy to leave here with the win. I hate that we lost the weekend but happy to leave here with at least a win.
