Lackie Tosses No-Hitter; Jags Earn Saturday Sweep

MONROE, La. | Olivia Lackie tossed her fifth career no-hitter in the series opener to lead South Alabama to a 1-0 victory, and the Jaguars then clinched the series with a 10-2 victory in game two Saturday afternoon at the ULM Softball Complex.

Quotable – head coach Becky Clark
- On the two wins: "It's great to be back in the win column. Liv (Olivia Lackie) was lights out in the first game and Ry (Rylie Harrison) threw a solid seven in the second game. Offensively, we had a lot of timely hits and some great quality at-bats. I thought overall today was a great team day."

Senior P Olivia Lackie
- On opening the series with a win: "It was a big deal to win game one coming off of last weekend because it gave us the confidence we needed going into game 2 and the rest of the weekend."

- On her no-hitter: "It was awesome that Ii threw a no hitter, but ultimately I owe thanks to my defense for making plays behind me and the offense for scoring runs to win the game."

Game 1 – South Alabama 1, ULM 0
South Alabama scored an unearned run in the top of the second and that was all Lackie (11-5) needed as the senior tossed her first no-hitter of the spring. Outside of a hit batter in the bottom of the first, the Walker, La., native didn't allow a base runner and retired the final 19 batters she faced, striking out five.

Sasha Willems provided the offense for the Jags (15-11-1, 1-3 SBC) as the senior catcher had a single and scored the lone run.

Maddie Nichols (7-6) allowed just two hits, but ULM's (19-12, 2-2 SBC) defense committed four errors.

How It Happened
• South Alabama jumped out in front with an unearned run in the top of the second. Willems led off the inning with a single to left center after an eight-pitch at-bat. One batter later, Willems came all the way around to score after a pair of Warhawk errors when Stephanie Gonzalez attempted to move her over with a bunt (USA, 1-0)

Postgame Notes
• The meeting marked the 53rd in the all-time series between the two clubs
• South extended its series win streak to nine-straight games and has won 10 of the last 11
• The meeting marked the third time the two clubs have faced each other in the first road series for the Jags
• South also improved to 11-6 mark in the first game of its first league road series
• Brasher has had at least one hit in nine of her last 11
• The no-hitter was the 23rd in program history and the fifth for Lackie, and was the first since Jenna Hardy's versus Bowling Green (3/4/23)
• The five no-hitters are tied with Hannah Campbell for the most in program history by a Jaguar pitcher

Game 2 – South Alabama 10, ULM 2
South Alabama (16-11-1, 2-3 SBC) scored two runs in the first and then after ULM (19-13, 2-3 SBC) had cut the deficit to one in the fourth inning, the Jaguars scored seven unanswered runs over the final three innings to clinch the series.

Rylie Harrison (4-2) went the distance for the Jags, scattering six hits and allowing just two unearned runs.

Brasher led the club at the plate with three hits, two runs scored and a RBI. Gabby Stagner also scored twice and drove in a pair of runs, while Odalys Cordova had two RBI.

How It Happened
• Brasher led off the game with an infield single, and two pitches later Stagner drove a 1-0 pitch over the wall in right center to put the Jags up 2-0.
• Maryssa Zenzen walked on four-straight out of the zone to lead off the ULM second. With one out, Elle Carter snuck a single to the right side, but Rylie Harrison was able to get a pair of line outs too short to leave the Warhawk runners stranded.
• Stagner reached for the second time in as many plate appearances as she drew a one-out walk in the top of the third. Willems then lined a double to right to put a pair of Jags in scoring position. Sydney Lee then reached on a fielder's choice and Stagner came home, beating the throw to the plate (USA, 3-0).
• Brooklin Lippert reached on a bunt single to start the bottom half of the third for ULM. Lippert moved all the way around to third when Willems' attempted pick-off throw went into right field. The centerfielder then came home one batter later on a ground out (USA, 3-1).
• Erin McGlothlin drew a one-out walk in the South Alabama fourth, who was then moved into scoring position on a ground out, but ULM reliever Gianni Hulett left the runner stranded with a strikeout looking.
• ULM put runners at the corners with one out after a walk to Andie Edwards and then a bunt single to Carter and a Jaguar error. Pinch hitter Layla Thompson then drove a ball to the warning track in center, which was deep enough to score Edwards (USA, 3-2) for another unearned run.
• Willems was hit by a pitch with one away, and with two away, Gonzalez lined a single to center. With runners at first and second, Shelby Garrett lined a single to right, allowing pinch runner Caitlyn Gavin to score and push the Jag lead back out to two (4-2). ULM looked as if that was all the scoring it would allow as Hulett induced a foul ball to right off the bat of pinch hitter Sophia Mendoza, but the ball was dropped, allowing two more runs to come home (USA, 6-2).
• Marley Sims drew a leadoff walk to start the sixth and turn things over to the top of the lineup. Brasher then reached on an infield single. With runners at second and third and two outs in the inning, Cordova lined a 0-2 pitch back up the middle to bring home Sims and Brasher (USA, 8-2).
• South Alabama added two more runs in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Bailey Welch and then a RBI single by Brasher (USA, 10-2).
• ULM loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh
