South's Season Comes to a Close in SBC Quartefinals

FOLEY, Ala.- South's season came to a close on Monday afternoon after a 2-1 loss to Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt Quarterfinals.

The Chanticleers started the game quickly with an early goal in the fifth minute to take the 1-0 advantage. The Jags would make several opportunities to score but would struggle to convert. Coastal would convert on another opportunity in the 23rd minute as the Chanticleers took the 2-0 lead. South continued to battle as they entered the half behind 2-0.

Bonnie Frost breathed life into South in the 57th minute as she headed in a beautiful corner by Irene Campo to bring South back in to the game, trailing 2-1. The Jags would make several more opportunities to score as the game moved forward, but would be halted by the strong defense played by Coastal Carolina. South continued to fight and put some pressure on the Chanticleers as the Jags rallied with strong defensive play. Despite South's best efforts, the Jags would come up just short in a 2-1 final.

The Jags had a remarkable year clinching the West Division of the Sun Belt and proved their worth by earning the second seed in the Sun Belt Tournament. South has a bright future ahead with a solid young core set to lead the charge.
