Perrier Takes Second; Elizondo Finishes Fourth in Georgia Tech XC Invitational

FAIRBURN, Ga. - Sacha Perrier and Charleen Elizondo finished their respective races in the top five as the men finished in second place in the 8k and women placed fourth in the 6k at the Georgia Tech XC Invitational.

Perrier finished in second place with his first 8k time, followed by Carson Barlow and Xavier Johnson in 10th and 11th place, respectively, in the 154 runner field. Barlow also reached a personal best, with Luke Regan setting his first 8k time. Elizondo led the women's side in the first 6k of the season with 190 other runners. Maria Gelvez, Tyndal Ann Griffith, and Katie Giles all set PBs in their 6k, with freshmen Abigail Amick and Samantha Menikheim recording their first 6k times.

On the men's performance today
It was good to see us have a team race and get the season really started. We have a lot to work to do going into the rest of the season. It was good for Sacha and Xavier with his first run of the season. Carson impressed me the most after coming off an injury and has been improving in each race. He will be a big factor over the next few weeks. It was a good result against good teams and we will be working on being competitive on the front end.

On the course conditions and the women's performance today
The course today was long and muddy so it was good they (Gelvez, Griffith, Giles) ran faster than last year. We can compete better; we're sitting similar to where we were three weeks ago at Southern Showcase. Maria ran well working up the group and finishing hard. As a team we need to look better and close out in the end and execute better. These middle races are more about learning about the team and diagnosing how to improve.
