Accossatto’s Singles Run Highlights Jags’ CCB Invite Performance

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Juan Accossatto won the A draw at the CCB Collegiate Invite to lead South Alabama Men's Tennis over the weekend.

"We came to this tournament wanting to play a lot of matches, and that's exactly what we got," said South Alabama head coach Nick Brochu. "On clay it's long rallies and very physical, so it was a good test. We fought really well overall. We were able to compete regardless of whether we were up or down."

Accossatto won a pair of matches on Friday to get the ball rolling, first defeating his Belmont opponent 6-2, 5-5 before he retired. He then knocked off a Jacksonville State foe 7-6 (5) after he also retired. On day two, his run continued with a straight-sets victory over a Tulane opponent 6-1, 6-3, then he finished the job on Sunday with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win.

"Juan took care of business winning all four matches," Brochu added. "It was very, very physical, but he was able to pull it out."

Braden Hannig also got off to a quick start on Friday with wins of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-2. Victor Frumholz joined his as a winner in his first match over Tulane 3-6, 6-0, 6-2. After suffering an early defeat, Harold van Raemdonck bounced back to pick up his first victory of the tournament, 7-6 (9), 1-6, 1-0 (4).

Day two introduced doubles plan into the tournament, and Hannig and Frumholz combined for a strong showing. The duo knocked off Samford 6-3 before advancing to a 6-3 win against UAB. After dropping their first match, van Raemdonck and Accossatto recovered in the form of a 7-5 win over Samford.

Sunday brought more strong doubles play with Hannig and Frumholz finishing their tournament undefeated with a 6-3 victory. van Raemdonck and Accossatto also finished Sunday strong on a 6-2 victory. In addition to Accossatto's Sunday singles victory, Frumholz picked up a win on a 6-4, 5-7, 13-11 decision.

"Braden and Victor played like Rockstars," Brochu said. "They served extremely well in the final. I don't think they got broken once the entire weekend. They were confident and went through a few returns and got the break, then held serve and that was it. Overall, all four players fought extremely well and played some excellent tennis. Now we need to rest and get ready for our next tournament in Louisiana."

South Alabama will play at the Cajuns Classic Nov. 1-3 in Lafayette, La.
