Francois Prinsloo Named Sun Belt Men's Student Athlete of the Year

MOBILE, Ala. – Francois Prinsloo added to his historic career Tuesday night as he was named the 2023-24 Sun Belt Men's Student-Athlete of the Year at the Sun Belt Honors Banquet.

The 2024 NCAA Champion in the Discus and a 2024 Olympian had a storied career in a Jaguars uniform. The Worcester, South Africa native is a three-time NCAA All-American, three-time NCAA East Regional Champion, a six-time Sun Belt Conference champion, and ranks sixth in the all-time NCAA Discus throw rankings.

"Francois is an incredible athlete and an even better human, head coach Paul Brueske said." He is everything you want in an athlete, and it's so great to see the success that he has achieved. He has worked so hard and is truly deserving of all of the accolades."

During the 2024 outdoor season, Francois won the discus at nine out of 10 meets, was named Sun Belt Field Athlete of the Week four times, and earned the Title of Men's Top points scorer at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships after claiming the individual conference championship in the discus and Hammer Throw.

Prinsloo secured his third straight NCAA East Regionals Title in discus in late May before moving on to the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. He put on a masterclass performance, leading from start to finish and securing the National Championship with a throw of 63.51 meters (208'4").

After surpassing the Olympic Qualifying standard for the discus during the season, Prinsloo took on the world stage and represented his home country, South Africa at the 2024 Paris Olympics Games, where he placed in the top 25 in the world.
