Â
LAST TIME OUT
Â
After a slow first half that saw the game tied at seven apiece at halftime, South Alabama came alive in the second half to outscore Southeastern Louisiana, 28-10, and win the game 35-17 Saturday night at Hancock Whitney Stadium.
Â
The Jags produced a balanced offensive attack on the night, passing for 261 yards and earning 248 yards on the ground. QuarterbackÂ
Carter Bradley threw for 258 yards and a touchdown on a 73-percent completion clip, withÂ
Caullin Lacy acting as his top target on the night with eight catches for 139 yards and a touchdown. The duo hooked up for an 84-yard touchdown strike on the first play of the fourth quarter, which set a record for the longest passing touchdown in program history.
Â
The ground game was led by a one-two punch fromÂ
Kentrel Bullock andÂ
La'Damian Webb. Bullock rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries while Webb produced 81 yards and two touchdowns. Marco Lee then came in as South's closer in the fourth quarter, rushing for a total of 66 yards and a touchdown.
Â
Defensively, USA was also balanced with several defenders swarming to the ball throughout the game.Â
Yam Banks led the team with seven tackles, and came up with a key interception in the second quarter to put an end to a Lion drive that was threatening to go deep into Jaguar territory. Fellow safetyÂ
Jaden Voisin also forced a crucial takeaway for the Jaguar defense on SLU's second drive of the game. With a Lion running back nearing the end zone, Voisin made a key hit to force a fumble whichÂ
Wesley Miller jumped on to recover and give USA possession.
Â
After a scoreless first quarter, Southeastern drew first blood in the game when they went on a 12-play, 93-yard drive that resulted in a touchdown late in the second quarter. The Jags responded immediately, going 75 yards in just four plays to even the score heading into the locker room.
Â
Coming out of the halftime break, South Alabama quickly took control of the game when Webb scored his second touchdown of the night from 13 yards out. Bullock then made the score 21-7 with his rushing score late in the third quarter. Lacy's 84-yard highlight touchdown opened the fourth quarter to put the Jags up 28-10, and the two teams traded points the rest of the way before South clinched the win.
