MOBILE, Ala. – The Jaguars closed out non-conference play undefeated for the first time in program history after a 3-0 win over UAB at The Cage Sunday night.
Â
The win extended South's undefeated streak at home as well, with the last loss for the Jags in Mobile coming from Ole Miss on Sept. 2, 2021.
Â
The Jags dominated the Blazers offensively in the first half, taking nine shots compared to UAB's one, but were unable to find the back of the net through 30 minutes of action until
Chiara Singarella netted her fourth goal of the season off a
Gracie Wilson assist to take a 1-0 lead in the 32
nd minute.
Â
South held off the UAB counterattack, taking a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Â
In the second half, South continued to pressure the Blazer defense, adding seven more shots while holding UAB to four.
Â
South tacked on another goal in the 59
th minute, this one courtesy of a header from
Gabby Hollar off a Singarella assist. The goal was Hollar's sixth of the season, which leads the Jaguar offense.
Â
Wilson added a third goal in the 81
st minute off an assist from
Kailey Littleford to secure the 3-0 win over UAB.
Â
Keeper
Jaidy Gutierrez Campos recorded another clean sheet, her fourth of the season and the teams fifth. She faced five shots and recorded one save.

SCORING SUMMARY
Â
QUOTABLE
Head Coach
Richard Moodie:
"Sometime you get it right. I think we had a good performance on Thursday against Mississippi State, but the score line doesn't reflect that. UAB is a good team, make no mistake. They have had some great results. They have a good overall record. They are a good team and it took a special performance to win this one tonight. It doesn't matter if they were their best or not, we were brilliant tonight. We had multiple scorers, multiple players got assists, I thought we were firing on all cylinders."
Â
On the defense
"Credit to
Adrian Cabado and
Rob Ward, they do a lot of the defensive shape for the team and we take a lot of pride in that, in being able to break down attacks and being difficult to score on. I don't think we did a good job of locking up the house before we left, we had too many numbers forward and got caught in transition a few times. But,
Cloey Uddenberg is unbelievable tonight, she just breaks the game up for us. It's a pivotal role for any team but she doesn't get the recognition on the stats, but she just absolutely breaks the game up."
Â
On preparing for Sun Belt play
"We had a good preseason and good nonconference games, these last two have been good for us to finish up the non-conference slate. Now we go into the third part of schedule, conference play. We have an opportunity to rest because we just have one game next week. Chance to regroup. We are far from a finished product so we need to keep pushing. I think they are quite eager to see how good we can be this year."
Â
Graduate midfielder
Gracie Wilson:
"That performance was incredible. That was a team performance. The girls are just incredible and this team is amazing to play for. It's been a great senior season."
