Bradley selected to second Watch List

Selection marks the seventh-straight year a Jag candidate for to Wuerffel Trophy

ATLANTA – South Alabama quarterback Carter Bradley was named to his second preseason watch list as the senior was selected to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List as announced by the organization on Thursday. Bradley was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List earlier this week.

The Jacksonville, Fla., native is one of 110 individuals from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision level in consideration for the award honoring college football's top community servant.

South Alabama has had a member selected to the watch list for the community service award since 2017 and eight of the last nine summers, with current Jag Keith Gallmon Jr. receiving the honor each of the previous two seasons.

Bradley has been active in the community participating in a pancake breakfast for local orphans this past spring, while also training kids and giving them quarterback lessons during the summer.

Bradley has earned numerous preseason all-SBC honors this summer, including Athlon Sports, Phil Steele and PFF. He was one of seven Jags to earn second-team honors from the league coaches last month.

In his first season after transferring from Toledo, Bradley set school records in passing yards (3,326), completions (276) and touchdowns (28) in his first year at South Alabama. He ranked in the top 50 nationally in 11 different categories, including 22nd in passing touchdowns and 25th in passing yards in 2022 and passed for three or more touchdowns in a game seven different times during the season, including four against Texas State.

Bradley also passed for 250 or more yards seven different times on the season, including 300 or more three times. He threw for 377 yards against Western Kentucky in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, for 354 yards and three touchdowns on the road against Central Michigan before setting a school record with 420 yards and three touchdowns against ULM.

The Wuerffel Trophy is College Football's Premier Award for Community Service, and one of the most meaningful
awards in collegiate sports, The Wuerffel Trophy is named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida who parlayed his success on the football field into a lifetime of service. The Wuerffel Trophy embodies Danny's commitment to being a humanitarian, while honoring student-athletes who are inspired to serve others and make positive impacts on society.

Nominations for the Wuerffel Trophy are made by the respective universities' Sports Information Departments and will close on October 16. An up-to-date list of nominees can be found at wuerffeltrophy.org. Semifinalists for the award will be announced on November 2, 2023, and finalists will be announced on November 28, 2023. The formal announcement of the 2023 recipient is scheduled to be made on December 7 during The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN, and the presentation of the 2023 Wuerffel Trophy will take place on February 17, 2024, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Ga.

ABOUT THE WUERFFEL TROPHY
Established in 2005, the Wuerffel Trophy honors college football players who serve others, celebrates their impact, and inspires greater service across the nation. A member of the National College Football Awards Association, the Wuerffel Trophy is presented annually to the FBS player who best combines exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field. It is the first major award honoring the character of service to others.

The Wuerffel Trophy is named after Heisman Trophy winner, College Football Hall of Famer, former NFL quarterback, and renowned humanitarian Danny Wuerffel, whose life mission is to inspire greater service in the world. Wuerffel led the University of Florida to four SEC Championships and the Gators' first National Football Championship as the team's star quarterback. The 1996 Heisman Trophy winner set 17 NCAA and Florida records and won a myriad of other awards including the Maxwell Award, the Davey O'Brien Award, and The William V. Campbell Trophy, presented to the nation's top scholar-athlete. As a nationally recognized humanitarian, Wuerffel inspires leaders to use their influence to make a positive impact and currently serves as President of the Wuerffel Foundation.
