JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | Francois Prinsloo became the third South Alabama student-athlete to punch his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with his performance in the discus on Friday.
Prinsloo punched his ticket by winning gold in the event with a throw of 61.44 meters (201-07), winning the event by nearly five feet over second-place Claudio Romero of LSU at 60.01 meters (196-10). He joins
Kyle Rademeyer in the pole vault and
Kirami Yego in the 10,000-meters as student-athletes who advance to the outdoor championships.
Sebastian Loschner finished 38th in the discus with a throw of 51.58 meters (169-03), while
Dorian Curry wrapped up his 2023 season with a 29th-place in the high jump with a height of 2.04 meters (6-08.25). Yego finished up the night for the Jags with a 31st-place finish in the 5000-meters with a time of 14:18.89.
The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held June 7-June 10 in Austin on the campus of the University of Texas. The NCAA East Preliminaries continue Saturday with a pair of student-athletes in action.
