Five seniors are listed among the 2023 South Alabama softball roster, and each Monday throughout the season, one will give fans a view through their eyes as they recap the previous week. On tap this week is third baseman
Meredith Keel.
Tuesday – Game Day vs. Nicholls
This week we wrapped up our final midweek against Nicholls. I started off the day doing homework, and trying to get ahead on the week. My pregame meal was homemade baked spaghetti, and of course I had a coffee to fuel me that morning. The game was closer than what we would have liked, but Gabby (Stagner) came through with the big RBI in the bottom of the sixth to put us ahead. It was nice to see all of her hard work come together at the end of that game. To finish the night, I spent time with Marley (Sims) and Mackenzie (Brasher)!Â
WednesdayÂ
Wednesday was a big regrouping day for us. Coming off of last night's win and not playing to our expectations, we knew there were things we needed to work on. We put our focus on hitting and had a nice cage workout. Following practice, I spent the rest of my time doing homework at Satori with Mackenzie and Marley. I finished the night with tacos for dinner.Â
Thursday – Game Day Eve
Today was a busy day for me. I started my morning finishing up a presentation that I later went and practiced with a group in my class. We are presenting about how exercise effects each gender differently. Softball wise, we had a great team practice as we prepared for App State. Following our practice, we went and lifted and did recovery. I finished my night with a great meal that
Rachel Everett made for me. Â
Friday – Game Day vs. App State
On Friday, we woke up expecting to play one game, but to our surprise we got to play two! I started my morning with a Yellowhammer coffee run and picked up my sister and mom from the airport. I am so thankful and glad that they got to make it down to watch me play one more time. In our first game of the day the Jags were on fire. We run-ruled App State, 9-0. It was a great start to the day and a great start to the weekend. The second game, we won 5-2 and
Bailey Welch was a perfect 5-5 in the doubleheader. I was so happy for her. To end the day, my family and I went to Roma Cafe and I had a big plate of spaghetti.Â
SaturdayÂ
Today we were canceled because all of the bad weather. Instead of a game, we had a quick hitting session and recovery session before the rain moved in. After our practice, I took my sister to Zaxby's for lunch. We don't have them in Ohio, so every time she comes down to Mobile, I make it a point to take her there. After lunch, I shopped around the remainder of the day with my family. We finished our night with pizza at MOD.
Sunday – Game Day vs. App StateÂ
This morning we woke up early and ready to tackle the tarp! Our grounds guy, Jeff, did an amazing job getting our field ready to go. We are so thankful for all that he does. Once our field was prepped and ready, we began to warm up and finish the series. We won 1-0 and Liv (
Olivia Lackie) pitched an amazing game. She now leads the nation in shut outs and I am so happy for her. It has been so fun to watch various teammates break records this year. After the game, my mom treated Odalys (Cordova) and I to a good meal at Bamboo. Having my family down here this weekend was perfect.Â
