Jags win series finale, win third straight Sun Belt Conference series

South Alabama returns home for eight straight

MONROE, La. | Jeremy Lee led South Alabama to a 12-2 victory over ULM at Lou St. Amant Field to win the series on Sunday, the third consecutive Sun Belt Conference series win of the season.

Tyler Borges finished 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, reaching base three times on the day. Cole Ketzner also finished 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBI reaching base three times, while Joseph Sullivan went 2-for-2 with a home run and a pair of walks (was also hit once). Will Turner and Trey Lewis each finished with a pair of hits and a pair of runs scored in the win.

Lee (1-5) picked up his first win of the season, pitching a complete game allowing just two runs on five hits. He also struck out nine and walked just three, retiring the leadoff man in the first six innings. He had a string of eight consecutive batters not reaching base until a ground-rule double in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Quotable, head coach Mark Calvi
Jeremy Lee's performance today …
"Really good, super proud of him. It was an outstanding start. I've seen him better, but that was good enough today. Good for him, I can't say enough good things about his effort. It's hard when you are facing a guy with good stuff and two outs, that means you got a couple of hits to score runs and you only have one out left to do it, that's hard. Getting a leadoff out a high percentage of the time, it's hard for the other team to score a run. Jeremy got six of his seven leadoff outs, that was part of the picture he painted today."

Balanced today offensively, team effort …
"Total team effort today. Pitched really well, played good defense, and really tough at-bats all game long. Their guy had two punchouts in the first inning and looked good at 88-90 from the left side, our guys just stayed balanced, kept working, and drawing pitches. We were happy to move on to the next guy, selfless at-bats. That's what it takes in a team effort. It's great when you have a couple of guys getting three or four hits, but when you have multiple guys contributing like we have the last two games – even Friday. Our team offense has been really good the last month, what they let go and what they choose to swing at. I think it's a bunch of new guys, you could see the beginnings of the team starting to come together, guys starting to settle into a role the right way. Nort wondering if they were going to play, I think some roles have been established but there is also competition as well. I give a guy like Austin Thrasher so much credit, hasn't played every day, but comes in and contributes the way he did in the last two games, that is a testament to working while you wait and not feeling sorry for yourself. (Cole) Ketzner had some time off but continued to work like you are starting every day, that is what we have had with guys, they are working like they are going to start and contribute the next game and when they get their number called, they are ready."
